Into the Breach is an illustration inspired and made for a Dungeons and Dragons game that I have been a part of for more than three years.

The story follows three characters who find themselves at the center of a creeping apocalypse and must do their best to stop it no matter what it takes. The illustration shows a pivotal moment when the characters must leave the surface world, already feeling effects of the approaching apocalypse, and journey underground in search of allies.

I used heavy inking and a simple oppressive color pallet to show the dread and fear of the coming situation. The figures are small against the massive angry sky above them and unyielding shadows beneath them.
